Liberal Attacks Miss Their Mark

by 28. September 2009 15:21

I find it rich that the Liberals, spearheaded by David McGuinty, are accusing the government of being "undemocratic" for giving their economic update today in Saint John.  Perhaps McGuinty could have benefited by running this talking points past some sort of focus group before running with it this morning.

Mr. McGuinty said the report card the Prime Minister is delivering Monday in Saint John will “give us more evidence the government is more incompetent. ... We think the figures that come out today will support our conclusion that we can no longer have confidence in the government.”

The Liberal MP criticized the government for making the announcement in New Brunswick, rather than in Parliament, accusing the Tories of being "undemocratic" for leaving town and the scrutiny of MPs and the media.

I don't know, it just seems a little silly.  I've never been to Saint John, but I do have family in New Brunswick.  I've never heard them speak about any deficit of media in the area.  I'm not sure what it is that McGuinty is getting at when he claims an announcement is NB is avoiding "the scrutiny of MPs and the media."   Certainly, there are quite a few stories published today in the media about this very announcement.

The Prime Minister must be doing a pretty good job on the economic front if the best the Liberal attackdogs can do is attack the media of Eastern Canada.

But all that said, it shouldn't be a surprise to anybody that the Liberals are trying to turn attention away from what's going on with their party in Quebec right now, resulting in Globe and Mail commentators warning Michael Ignatieff that he "had better watch his back" with so many Liberals questioning his judgment.

McGuinty talking about "undemocratic"...tell me I didn't read that.
This from a Liberal party that parachuted a guy in to replace Dion WITHOUT having the Liberal membership "democratically" elect him...THAT'S Liberal democracy for you!

He's pointing out the fact that Harper is (a) not available to respond to questions in Question Period about the report..

Why the hell would Liberals be asking any questions Ted? They said that they would not agree with the report before Prime Minister Harper released it!!

It would seem that the LPC does not like the New Brunswick and or the Atlantic Provinces.  I never heard them scream like this when the last two presentation were made in Southern Ontario.  That must be the reason or I have totally jumped the shark like the LPC has lately.

To be accurate, please refer to "Saint John", not "St. John".  The latter seems to be cross between "Saint John", NB, and "St. John's", Nfld.

Thanks.

Why? Is their attention span so short, they'll forget to ask him tomorrow?

This report is not one that the Liberals demanded for their support of the gov't from what I've read and understand... This report was going to come out regardless of anything any Liberal demanded as part of the annual announcements the Harper gov't has provided every Sept/Oct since winning office some near 4 years ago...  The real outrage regarding this is the fact that the Liberals are show boating by saying they'll vote against it no matter what before they even saw it...

What it comes down to is we pay these clowns to represent us in office and work for our benifit...not for theirs, but the betterment of Canada...  What productive contribution has Ignegative actually done in the last 4 years since returning to Canada to deserve anyones vote?

And that would matter why Ted?  Questions in QP?  Your kidding right?  Pre scripted questions with pre scripted non answers?  David McGuinty was doing his best spin..that's his job.  Not letting reporters ask questions?  Where the hell did you get that?  The PMO and the PM have refused to let reporters ask questions about the Economic Report?...speaking of spin eh Ted.
Hey..its all spin and they are all actors...face it.  The good ones like Chretien and Harper are just better at it.

He's pointing out the fact that Harper is (a) not available to respond to questions in Question Period about the report, you know, the Parliament that required him to report to, um, Parliament (b) not letting reporters ask questions about the report - from the clips I saw, it seemed he only answered 4 questions and 2 of them were about specific local infrastructure issues.
